-Date of birth
-Email address
-Phone number
-Climbing grade (highest color tag that you can send twice in a single climbing session)
-Role (primary climber or substitute).
-Entry pass (prepaid/ EFT membership, punch pass holder or day pass user)
Can I register at the front desk?
Unfortunately no, registration will remain online-only for organizational purposes
Is there a limit of participants for this event?
Yes, a maximum of 60 participants (20 teams) can register for this event.
How much is the bouldering league entry fee?
There is an early and late registration fee:
Early registration (now until Sunday, September 24th, 2023) is $8.00+HST per person.
Late registration (from Monday, September 25th, 2023 to Wednesday, October 4th, 2023) is $10.00+HST per person.
*All participants must have an entry pass. Members and punch pass holders will have to pay for the event fee. Guests must pay for a day pass for each event night plus event fee.
What happens if a team member cannot attend one of the weeks?
Every team must assign one person as a substitute in case they need them. Substitutes do not need to pay the event fee, but must have some sort of entry pass (e.g., prepaid/EFT membership, punch pass holder, or day pass)
What if the substitute can not make it either?
If a primary climber for a team is unable to attend and their respective substitute is unavailable, the team member/s will receive a set of absent points instead (Please refer to the Scoring and Leaderboard tab for more details)
What is a stripes test?
A stripes test allows an individual (17 years old and under) to climb without the need of adult supervision. In order to register in the Boulder League as a minor, participants must complete the stripes test in the facility.
When are the bonus points available?
Last day of Comp: Bouldering League participants will have a chance to receive bonus points if they wear a costume on the last day of the competition (Friday, October 27th). Five bonus points will be granted per costumed member.
Are the Bouldering League sets going to be tagged?
No, the grades of each bouldering problem will be hidden from participants.
Why are the grades hidden?
As much as this is a competition, the bouldering league is also a social event, as all participants will need to work with one another to help decipher the grade and beta (i.e., viable route for the problem). It will also encourage climbers to try every problem without getting intimidated by it. Additionally, having hidden grades helps us determine whether anyone is sandbagging or is in an inaccurate starting grade.
How do you submit your scores?
Every team must submit their scores online and also return each scorecard by the end of the night.
How are you going to make it fair for all skill levels?
Please refer to the “Scoring” tab.
Rules and Courtesies
Scoring & Leaderboard
Scoring
Scorecards will be given out at 7 PM to 10 PM every Friday. Each team must submit their scores online and also return each individual scorecard by the end of the night. The top three climbs of each member on the team will be recorded every week and a leaderboard will be posted.
*A QR code to submit scores online will be on the scorecards*
Sliding Scale Grading
Each individual will be required to input their climbing grade during registration (i.e., the highest color tag they can send twice in a single climbing session). This way, we will be able to identify what their starting point is and use it as a baseline to evaluate their projects.
Example: If a participant can send two blue tags in a single session, then that will be their starting point. If they complete a blue tag, they will receive20 points. If they complete a problem one grade below (i.e., pink tag), they will receive10 points. If they complete a problem one grade above (i.e., green tag), they will receive30 points. By completing a grade that is above your designated starting grade, you will receive a higher score. Please refer to the below section for when you complete two grades higher than your starting point.
Auto-balancing will be set in motion:
Management will be constantly reviewing the scores. If, at any time, we notice that any climbers are sandbagging or have placed themselves in an inaccurate starting grade, we will adjust their starting grades accordingly. We want to create an equal and fair environment for climbers of all levels. Therefore, every participant will be assessed by management every Boulder League day.
How will this be reviewed or changed:
-If a member of a team sends multiple grades higher than their starting grade, we will bump them up to prevent unfair advantages to other climbers.
Example: A member with a green tag starting grade sending three orange tags.
-If a member is unable to climb any problems that are on their starting grade, then we will bump them down.
Example: A member with a green tag starting grade sending only blue tags.
